TO THE LOVELY GHANAIAN OUT THERE
When we saw the impending charge to decide the face and structure of our country for the next four years, and the accompanying facets it could carry, as an endearing onus on us, both individually and collectively, we did all we could to ensure we kept that charge running till its star was well fitted as a perfect match for the skies. To what ever faith or belief, we had, the red, yellow and green colours that wrap round about our hearts, moved us to pray, preach, pour and purge one another’s intentions and emotions unto a near perfect and peaceful elections. We all deserve a great round of applause for the quota, no matter how minute it may be, that we contributed to this history our great nation has once again chalked. You were wholly part of this achievement.
Well to that; and indeed they say, we may argue and belong to different sections in the making of our political genealogies but one great thing stands; that no matter our lots, no matter what ethnicity, or “politicality”, the love for our country, transcends the boundaries of confinement these groups and parties can segregate us into. We have once again ranked GHANA above all and prioritized its blossom exercise of unadulterated stream of exemplary democratic outflow. Without doubt, we all have reiterated that great statement of our founder that “The Black man is capable of handling his own affairs”. The gateway to democracy in Africa is nowhere but Ghana. And if we have been able to do it, I believe all other African countries can too. We are more than able. A perfect use of our sense of humour to soothe the tides and sparkles that may have erupted.
Yes.. Many are chanting that the breeze of CHANGE has engulfed us. I realize the change in political controls and the fact that to a recognizable extent, the average Ghanaian has transformed from a mere voter to a discerning and rationalizing citizen who would neither accept mediocrity from any government nor decide based on superfluous ulterior motives but would delve into issues to scrutinize and choose trends that would speak better for the nation. We all called for change and somehow change has come. And if we can make things happen this way, then surely we can make them happen in other ways. Do not be disappointed if the actual change we seek is not realized by the elected Government.
As a rule, we are our own government and we rule our own selves. The government could have the brightest of interventions which will all not suffice a coin if we don’t want them to. WE ARE THE CHANGE WE SEEK. If we don’t let go the pride, the laziness, the backbiting, sabotage, selfishness, greed, malice amongst other malign acts, and allow this breeze of change we talk about to run us through and effect itself in our systems, then we may be celebrating today only to realize tomorrow that our achievement was only by a measure of a mile.
As citizens, as discerning people, we should be ready to change our attitudes, towards our work, ourselves our focus. We have the potential to do better. We are not attaining much because negative attitudes have tied our capabilities in the chimneys of perpetual torture. Surely, by the words of Robert Kelly “if we believe, we can achieve everything, even the impossible”. If we believe we are, individually, the change we seek, and not that the government is, we can change our attitudes for the best and therein, make our nation a lovely place to be.
I BELIEVE IN GHANA: LET’S MOVE MORE FOR CHANGE…
